5 Effortless Ways to Transition From Day to Night
Let’s face it- as students, we can agree that there are never enough hours in the day, especially when you wake up late for your 11:30 class and bus to campus. And to top it all off, you have no time to get ready for your night out later to your friend’s pregame and make it to the bar all at a reasonable time. So what can you do? One would suggest opting into the “drop and run” option by making a quick stop at home to ditch your backpack, make minor improvements to your look, and head on over to the pregame (or straight to Ceeps if it’s a Thursday). Here are some great ideas to take your wardrobe up a notch, and make that effortless transition from day to night.
1. Swapping Jackets
One of the easiest ways to give the outfit you wore to that three hour Psychology lecture an uplifting vibe is to swap out that puffy winter jacket which got you from building to building to a new lighter jacket. Leather jackets are always a great way to transform any look by giving a more sophisticated look to any outfit. Not a fan of the leather jacket? The trench coat is great for any lady or gentleman to stay extra warm in any line up.
2. A Fresh Pair of Kicks
Campus walks between buildings have the potential to not only be tiresome but can also be a student’s worst enemy. Any Western student will agree that boots and warm shoes are the go-to during this time of year, which may not be the most appropriate choice when going out later that night. Instead, make that quick stopover at home and simply swap the boots for a pair of heels- you can instantly ameliorate any outfit. A simple pair of black heels or booties are great investment pieces because they go with anything and you have the ability to dress them up or down. For guys, rolled up pant cuffs and a simple pair of oxfords are always a good go-to staple.
3. Accessories
Accessories pull together any outfit and add a little something extra to the ensemble. The classic blanket scarf can be worn day and night, and it's a great layering piece to give added warmth if you have to stand in-line. Watches are perfect for men and women alike as they are a simple statement piece and transition into night with no added effort. Rolled up sleeves and a beautiful watch always stand out, even when mixed and matched with other bracelets.
4. When in Doubt, Blackout!
‘Blacking out' isn’t just for the bar anymore. An easy way to transition from day to night is by wearing black. Whether it’s leather leggings with an oversize sweater or black jeans with a turtleneck, the timeless colour is perfect for the classroom and for a night out. You really can’t go wrong with sporting black as it goes with everything and it’s slimming to say the least. For guys, a simple black t-shirt and jeans or even a black pullover say a lot without having to change anything about the overall ensemble.
5. Last Minute Touch Ups
Last but not least, before heading out, a quick glance in the bathroom mirror or a last minute passenger seat mirror check is most definitely crucial to pull everything together. For the gals, an eye shadow palette and your favourite red or neutral lipstick really add that extra “je ne sais quoi” to the look you were rocking all day. Plus, they can easily be tucked into the backpack for extra convenience. For guys, a little gel and a spritz of cologne before leaving the house surely won’t go unnoticed.
