Simplicity is key. As such, outfits with basic, versatile pieces are a must. Simplicity does not mean boring however. Simplicity is an effortless look that can be molded by different components. This is where texture comes into play.
Texture adds a new dimension to an outfit. For instance, wearing a leather pant. This is particularly important for the fall, since fall is an “in-between” season. One can pair leather pants with a sweater to incorporate the ‘sweater weather’ trend as one such example. Leather is not the only component for texture however, pleats and lace are included as well and can be used to much the same effect. Each textural component makes a unique contribution to one’s outfit, be it to heighten a sense of modernity or edge.
Regarding tone, a safe choice is black and white. This combination provides obvious contrast, is easy to pull off, and clean cut. Having fun with tone is interesting as well, as mixing different monochromatic shades adds character. For instance, wearing all grey in a variety of shades is simple but can add a level of maturity to one’s overall image. While the idea of wearing only grey is more ideal for cooler seasons, swapping out another colour for grey makes it adaptable for the warmer seasons as well.
As each component works to complement one another, it is no surprise as to why they are so popular when deciding on how best to heighten one's outfit.
