The simple question, “When did you fall in love with fashion?” seems cliché and monotonous, as if the answer never changes. I believe the answer intensifies depending on who you ask. The foreground to style experimentation cultivates from intrigue and is nurtured through constant trial and error. There is a certain excitement held by each person that makes their eyes glaze over when they speak about style that connects so heavily to their identity, which begs the question...

“I started taking fashion seriously when I lost weight several months ago. Because I was a certain weight, I could be uninhibited with my style. And I soon realized that fashion is a form is self-confidence that allows you to feel flawless when done properly. I began studying designers, learning the craft, and was astonished at how one outfit can not only create an image to the rest of the world but can also influence those around you. From that breakthrough I remained consistent and started a modeling and photography business called CPBIJOUX.”

To live in fashion is a choice you make. It is not a skill you acquire it must be learned. I love fashion because no matter how many curveballs the universe tosses my way I can say "I looked fabulous as I was dodging them."
Shawn Nickelson - 19 Instagram: @prettynickel “I'll be completely honest, when I was younger my mom used to pick my clothes out for me. And when she did they’d always match from head to toe. At first I didn't care too much but then I began to enjoy the process of coordinating different colors, patterns, and pieces together to ultimately create my own style. At this point I was like 11 or 12 and I was sporting Jordans, Nikes, Fila, Fubu, Sean John, Ecko, Rockawear, you name it. Since then it’s all about experimentation.” |

I would always get up early and watch television with my grandma. One day I was flipping through the channels and stopped on one with dance music and people strutting down a runway. Little did I know it was a Chanel fashion show. Watching the ladies strut in their classic suits left me in awe! Right after the show I watched Jeanne Beker interview Karl Lagerfeld and it was that moment that he became my fashion icon. From then on, fashion television taught me all I know about high end designers, up incomers, new trends, everything. That one hour special back in 1998 was when I fell in love with fashion!” |
